Default [SOLVED] Installing ZCS on CentOS - use the RHEL5 download?

Hello all,

I'm in the early planning stages of setting up a test server to try out Zimbra. My employer is going to be replacing our entire e-mail infrastructure in the near future, and I'd like to offer Zimbra as an option.

I have barely any exposure to Linux, so I fully anticipate a learning curve.

So, that said...my understanding is that CentOS is basically RHEL with the branding stripped out. If I was to try setting up a test on CentOS, am I correct in assuming that I would simply use the RHEL Zimbra download?

Many thanks for the time and consideration.

Hi

Yes, you are on the right track. Use the RHEL download but run the install with the "./install.sh --platform-override" switch to ensure it continues.

On a side note, your proposed setup is exactly how we are running Zimbra here (CentOS 5.4 & NE) and we have a vast array of clients connecting including Linux, Mac, Windows, iPads, iPHones and droids.

Zimbra is incredibly stable, fast and reliable. Our only down time has been during upgrades and even then its minimal.

Good luck with your testing!

Thank you for the info - it is appreciated!

Out of interest, how many mailboxes are you running?

We are sitting around 190 at the moment. Zimbra is all on a single average spec server. 80% are connecting via Outlook & iPhones. The rest a mix of iMail/iCal or Thunderbird over IMAP and a handful via the web client. With the recent changes in Version 7 however, we are looking at migrating more to the web client.
