Server migration to new hardware

Here's my situation:

We have a test server of the Zimbra Network edition with hostname and domain of zimbrapro.domain.com running on a Mac G4(ppc).

I want to move this install to a new MacPro/Xserv (x86) with the same hostname but change the domain to domain.com. This includes the user accounts.

what would be my steps to complete this? I don't need specifics, I can find those in the forums/wiki.

i would run an upgrade,

or you can go through
tomcat
postfix
apache
mysql
ldap
and change it all in there

Not sure an upgrade is the whole picture here. You are going from PPC to Intel. If you just move everything over you will end up running things in Rossetta which will not be good.

I will be facing the same issue at some point in the future as my systems are currently running on PPC as well.

I am running the Network version so my initial thoughts were to do a fresh install on the Intel machine and then restore a backup into it. This would I hope make the transition, but not address your domain change.

I wonder if I create a new domain within Zimbra. If I can just move those others to that new domain. It looks like I can, but I don't know if email will deliver properly.

I think he ment to do an OSX(x86) over the ppc install.

Hmm, not sure an x86 install over the ppc would work. Depends how the installer works. I know that going between versions triggers an upgrade of only the changed parts not a complete write of all components. Someone from Zimbra may need to comment on this, either that or some practical testing.

I am probably not going to do the move myself until Leopard is released, one hit that way.

So now I have decided to go to RHEL from OSX. Mainly since no intel Xserv's will be out for a while. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I would need to do three things.

1. Move the data to a new server.
-- Can I restore data to a new server? Even if the server name is different?

2. Change the server name.
-- I was planing on a new install.

3. Change the domain name.
-- I see that I could make a second domain name and change the users default domain, then remove the old one. Will this work?

Step 3 will work, as I have had to do the same, if there aren't too many users, you can change their domians in the in the web admin, otherwise I believe zmprov can change all of them in one shot.

Step 2, I believe requires 'install.sh' script to be re-run, I know i found a simple way to do it, but it alludes me right now

Step 1, haven't encountered yet.
