i think it's usually called slapd on most distros - try service slapd stop
No slapd. Says the same thing as slap. I don't think it is installed.

make sure you have mx record set for the domain test.com
I fixed this problem. I was using my own DNS system on a local server. This is so I can test Zimbra.

you've already got a conflicting mta running - try shutting down existing sendmail/qmail/exim/postfix instances. ditto for existing openldap, cyrus/courier etc
I went though my services and didn't see anyone of them running. After I got the DNS working the error didn't come back up.

So I am still at my problem with slapd. I am going to look on the internet for it and download and install it.

Could there be some programs or files that I am missing that would cause slapd to fail start up?

no no! slapd is the ldap server daemon which zimbra provides, the point here is to make sure one isn't already running

Well it is working, for the most part, now. I changed computers and put FC5 on the new one. I am having some java errors but I am runnig an update on FC now. I can't install spell for some reason, it gives me an error when instilling. But everything installed and is working. I am not sure what I did different from the FC4 to the FC5. Thx for the help.

The single easiest way to tell why slapd won't start is to run the following and look at the last few lines.

    su - zimbra
    bash -x bin/ldap start

    Typical problems include
Can't bind to port, presumably because slapd is already running.
Can't bind to address, because hostname is not correct

Fixed the java errors, it was because of my hostname.

More information you find in running

bdb(): /opt/zimbra/openldap-data/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock: Function not implemented
bdb_db_open: Database cannot be opened, err 38. Restore from backup!
bdb(): DB_ENV->lock_id_free interface requires an environment configured for the locking subsystem
    backend_startup_one: bi_db_open failed! (38)
slap_startup failed (test would succeed using the -u switch)
