I can tell you that on our company's middle of the road Dell laptops which are standard issue to all employees the Zimbra web client is PAINFULLY slow in IE6. I've encouraged everyone to switch over to Firefox 1.5 which speeds things up nicely.

What are you comparing Zimbra with? My guess is your previous webmail app was a bit less feature rich. If so then our upcoming HTML-lite client will fit the bill just fine.
