Default Problems with Zimbra configuration?

Good Morning,
I am currently an IT student and trying to use Zimbra in a project. We are using ESXi on a blade server and have installed the Zimbra appliance, OTRS appliance, File Server appliance and the LAMP appliance each on a separate VM. Our objective is to set up a mock company that would allow customers to view a website (LAMP) and submit an online ticket request (OTRS) for our services. The ticket would then be forwarded to the company email (Zimbra). We have everything setup, however, we can't quite get the Zimbra mail system to work. When we try to send mail between company emails (all internal), the mail gets deferred and is never delivered. Can anyone give us some suggestions?
If you need anymore information, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Oh, I forgot to mention that for our DNS, we used the PDC appliance.

Yes. More information is needed.

For instance, is your Zimbra service running? if not, what error messages are you seeing in the logs? What kind of connection are these other apps trying to stablish to your Zimbra server? are the ports blocked by any kind of firewall? did you make sure your network is set up properly?...and so on.

Zimbra is up and running, but all mail is being deferred. The network is set up correctly, all firewalls are turned off and the other appliances seem to be functioning fine. I will have to try and tail the logfile and see what is listed.

I saw a lot of posts regarding the hosts file, and we did change that to read
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.1 Zimbra
192.168.2.116 mail.andthen.com mail

Hi guys.

Which zimbra distro you are using ,it seems you need Split DNS .

Have a look into this and let us know whether it works or not?

In addition to the Split DNS set-up mentioned in the post above, your hosts file is incorrect. You should remove the line I've highlighted, check your configuration with the commands in the 'Verify...' section of the Split DNS article.
