the core pattern means it will create files in /tmp named "core", that's not a directory.
Also, this won't stop slapd from crashing, but if it does crash, then it will allow creation of a core file for debugging purposes.
You also left out several of the required sysctl settings. You have do all of them as appropriate for your OS.
