Default Zimbra VM appliance not Receiving email

I just setup a new zimbra vm appliance and its not receiving email. I think its a problem with my HOSTS file. Here is what is looks like

-----------
10.1.2.228 zimbra01.shopdtg.com
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
-----------

My mail server host name is: zimbra01.shopdtg.com
I have an A record pointing the name to 209.34.246.30 which is the public IP address for the zimbra server. The local IP is 10.1.2.228. I also have an mx record pointing to zimbra01.shopdtg.com

Does my hosts file look correct??? I read something about adding a FQDN record to my hosts file but Im not sure. Oh one more thing when i run the CHECK MX Record in zimbra admin I get an error.

I have posted some screen shots here:

Your hosts file should look like this (as per the Quick Start Installation Guide):

Code:
10.1.2.228 zimbra01.shopdtg.com zimbra01
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
You will also need a Split DNS set-up as you're behind a NAT router, do you have that? If you still have problems after making the above changes then you should look in the log files for any errors.

Thanks for the response, my first problem is that I edited my Hosts file:
/etc/hosts and added the zimbra01 at the end of the first line and saved it but as soon as i reboot the server, that change gets lost. I am using Nano.

The second problem is that I DO NOT have Split DNS setup. I am reading up on it now.
