Default Home test lab installation of Open Source Edition

Hi,

A few questions...

Is there any guides on setting up a simple home installation of Zimbra? I only have one server box, a HP DL380, so can I set up bind and zimbra on the same server and use it for DNS and everything?

Secondly, is there a way to use zimbra locally like this, without giving it an SMTP server? I do not want to send any e-mails to the internet, just local testing. If I was to set it up with SMTP, can I use gmail SMTP or do I need to get one from my ISP?

I was also wondering if there are any PDF versions of the documentation pages, ie: Zimbra™ Collaboration Suite Single Server Installation - Open Source

Reason being is that I use a kindle and read a lot on the train while traveling. I'd like to learn a bit about the technology in my spare time.

Thanks

It's the same as setting up any Zimbra server, details in the Documentation, wiki and the forums.

Yes, read the Split DNS article.

I don't understand what you mean by this comment, Zimbra is an SMTP server (amongst all it's other features).

Go to the Documentation page (the Docs link at the top of this page) and download what you want.

What I mean by that is, I would assume you need to use your ISP's SMTP settings if you want Zimbra to be able to send e-mails out to other people on the internet? If I don't want to send e-mails out to people on the internet, can I get away with using Zimbra without configuring SMTP settings on it? Just sending e-mails to other accounts on my Zimbra server for testing.

Thanks

No, you don't need to do that at all as Zimbra will deliver mail directly. They are not 'SMTP Settings', what you're describing here is a mail relay.

It will do that without any modifications, it can tell the mail is local.
