| | | Novell Suse Linux Enterprise 10 Server - Installation Just wanted to find out if anyone has done an installation on this system yet?
I am having a problem with the DNS not starting after installing Zimbra.
Steps I went through after installing the server
1. added all the missing packages
2. manually assign an IP
3. modify the dns
-added a A record and MX record
4. started installing zimbra
5. make sure chmod 0640 on sudoers (otherwise it won't get pass the ldap section).
Anyone done anything differently. Help would be appreciated.

What does your install log say? |

| | | The first error I got is when it gives a DNS Error, pointing to the machine's FQDN instead of the domain. I retype the domain name and it is fine.
Next error, I am getting a port conflict error:
"Port conflict detected: 25 (zimbra-mta)"
Any clue?
Next error is when the Initializing ldap.... FAILED (256) just after writing the local config file.
After all that, I also noticed that my DNS server stop and I can't restart it.
When I uninstall Zimbra, after all the Zimbra components stopped, I can restart my DNS.
I am running Novell SLES 10.

| | Maestro,
By default SUSE has postfix configured to run at startup, to diable just run:
rcpostfix stop
chkconfig postfix off
This will disable postfix and allow Zimbra's postfix to startwithout issue. Not sure about your DNS issues I'm afraid. |

| | Can't imagine why DNS is failing when Zimbra is running, we don't have any interactaction with DNS (other than the obvious).
Try stopping the installed postfix as FunkyPenguin has suggested and restart your server, see if there's still a problem with DNS.

After stopping the postfix services as FunkyPenguin suggested, it installed without any errors and worked. However, when I stop and restart DNS, it will not restart. Any Idea why Zimbra services will interfer with Binds or DNS?
Thx. |

| | I can't imagine why there's a problem with DNS, are there any errors in the logs on why DNS is failing? This is, of course, an unsupported platform and still a relatively new product .
Which version of Zimbra have you installed?

Check your error logs for the system...almost sounds like there is a typo in either your zone file or named.conf file. |

I am 99% sure the DNS is set up correct. It is very simple afterall. I will review the error log, but can someone tell me where the error log is located for services that failed to start up, ie.. DNS?
I am using the latest stable version of Zimbra. I think 3.2.
I can always run DNS on a different machine. But it would be nice to know why it is not working. |

| | SLES9 download but no SLES10? Is SUSE10 compatible? G'day
I was wondering if the Zimbra Open Source Editition - SUSE10 download was compatible with SLES10? Does anyone know? (I'm going to try it out shortly).
There is a SLES9 download, but not a SLES10? Is it just assumed that SLES10 = SUSE10. Appreciate that Novell are not the best when it comes to naming SUSE
And finally is the schedule for supporting Zimbra Network Editition on SLES10 still end of this year?
Cheers!
