Default [SOLVED] openSUSE 11.2(x86_64) platform

Hello,

I am installing Zimbra 6.0.6 on openSUSE 11.2 but it is indicating that this platform is different than the platform for which they were built for!!! Any ideas why?

I have tried to install Zimbra earlier but it was not successfully done as I never entered my admin password neither that I got a confirmation of its install so I guess that is why it is upgrading. Either way, I don't know how to login into Zimbra as I don't know the login password. How do I obtain that?

Thanks.

The simple answer is that you're installing ZImbra on an unsupported platform, openSUSE is not supported nor are there any binary builds for it. You may or may not get it working (search the forums for details) but my suggestion would be to use a supported distribution from this list.

Phoenix,

I installed SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP1 64bit instead of openSUSE 11.2 which should be supported. I tried to install ZCN on it. Here is what I got.

I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong and I'm about to go crazy. I have been trying to install ZCN for over a week now. Some help would greatly be appreciate.

Thanks

If this is a new install I'd recommend you completely remove Zimbra from the system qith the following command:

Code:
./install.sh -u
That will remove everything including any email (if you have any), after that's finished remove the /opt/zimbra directory if it still exists. If this is behind a NAT router (or firewall) the you'll need a Split DNS set-up and a valid (and correct) /etc/hosts file - check the Quick Start Installation Guide for the format and search the forums for details on how to verify the DNS & host file are correct.

When you've done that run the install script again and when you get to the question about 'changing the domain name' answer yes then enter the correct domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com not the FQDN of your server). See how you get on with that.

BTW, you shouldn't install the proxy or memcached if this is a single server.

Server not behind a firewall or NAT router. I uninstalled ZCN and re-installed again without the proxy and memcache packages. Now I am getting DNS Errors. When I answer YES to the question to change from the FQD to asndinc.com I still get the error that there is no MX configured. See my configuration below and please let me know where I am going wrong as this is my last peace of the buzzle. Thanks Phoenix.

I configured my resolv.config file manually to make sure it is accurate before the installation and here is what I have:

### Please remove (at least) this line when you modify the file ...
search asndinc.com
nameserver 192.168.1.71

BTW, what is the original setting for this file so I no longer get the Error "You have modified /etc/resolv.conf. Leaving it untouched..."???

My hosts file shows the following:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.71 outlook.asndinc.com outlook

I did create A name and MX for my domain asndinc.com through YaST2 Zone Editor screen and here is what I have:

asndinc.com NS is outlook.asndinc.com
@ MX 10 outlook.asndinc.com
@ A 192.168.1.71

What is triggering my DNS error?
Thank Bill

Could you please paste the content of /var/lib/named/master/name-of-your-domain ?

The following are guide for installing Zimbra 6.0.5 64 bit on SLES 11 64 bit but it should also work with SLES 11 SP1 and Zimbra 6.0.7

I only see 127.0.0.zone and localhost.zone. Not sure why I don't have my domain asndinc.com in the master folder...! Any ideas?

Hmmmh, it seems that you didn't setup DNS correctly

How about re-setup DNS server by using YAST | Network Service | DNS Server

You may also refer to my article regarding setting up DNS Server on openSUSE/SLES to meet with Zimbra requirement

The fact you have a 192.168.x.x private IP address indicates that you are behind a NAT router - you will need to set-up a Split DNS and you also need a correct /etc/hosts file (see the Quick Start Installation Guide for details). When you've set that up correctly you'll find threads all over the forums showing you how to confirm it's working correctly (those threads also tell you what's needed for the hosts file).
