Default email queued in Active and staying there

Hi All,

I have been struggling with this all evening, all of a sudden incoming email started to stay in the Active queue and not progress any further. It is showing as being in the smtp-amavis filter.

I have a relayhosts setup so delivery by DNS is disabled.

I re-installed by re-running the install script and selecting upgrade to try and fix the problem but no change.

I have tailed all the /opt/zimbra/log/*.log files and cannot see any errors.

This server is only a week old and has been performing well, so it has worked previously just fine. The server only runs Zimbra and no other system tweaks have been carried out recently.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
David.

Hi-
Postfix attempts to deliver queued mail on a interval, so tailing the log may not provide much information.

Could you please attach the log in a post?

Also, please give us some stats, ie OS, ZCS ver, RAM.

What does a zmcontrol status return?

john

Oh dear - whilst I am typing the this the queue has emptied :-)

And, I just found the log in /var/log/ - I only saw the ones in /opt/zimbra/log/ and thought that Zimbra had encapsulated all the logs in one place.

As a matter of post"fix"ed details, here is what was in the /var/log/zimbra.log relating to errors:

Aug 20 03:42:51 gw postfix/master[21258]: warning: process /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.2.9/libexec/smtp pid 14923 exit status 1
Aug 20 03:42:51 gw postfix/master[21258]: warning: /opt/zimbra/postfix-2.2.9/libexec/smtp: bad command startup -- throttling
...
...
Aug 20 07:00:01 gw postfix/postqueue[15776]: fatal: Queue report unavailable - mail system is down
...
Aug 20 08:00:02 gw sendmail[15777]: k7K70189015777: to=zimbra, ctladdr=zimbra (500/500), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30306, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]
...

and whilst typing this reply, i started by restarting the zcs and when it restarted, all the email started buzzing through to delivery..

Aug 20 08:01:06 gw postfix/smtp[18026]: 13D2B1185FF: to=, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1], delay=-3819, status=sent (250 2.6.0 Ok, id=15563-01, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 Ok: queued as D09261185F8)

Maybe it was me randomly attacking the keyboard between midnight and 3am which did something silly - or maybe it was something to do with the network, but it fixed itself. Maybe all I needed was some sleep :-(

Thanks,
David.
