Default External LDAP settings not saved

After installing Zimbra 3.1.4 on OpenSUSE 10.1 I tried using the Administration panel to change authentication settings. The settings used were
Authentication Mechanism: External LDAP
ldap://ldap.test.com Port 389
ldap filter: uid=%u
LDAP search base: ou=people,dc=test,dc=com
Use Bind DN/Password: Checked
Bind DN: uid=moodleldap,ou=systemaccounts,dc=test,dc=com
bind password: test

I then enter a username and password from a user in the people OU and the test is successfull.

I then check the Authentication tab in the Administration Panel and magically the LDAP bind DN template: field is blank and Use DN/Password to bind to external server: is set to No

Does Zimbra just forget to save these settings?

When trying to log into zimbra mail, users in the ldap database fail to authenticate because Zimbra doesn't use the appropriate Bind user and password.

Did you hit save before you tried to go to a new tab?

Default Not an option

After clicking finish to testing the settings for external authentication I am automatically taken to the General tab for the particular domain and save is grayed out. When clicking on the Authentication tab the information is missing.

We made some fixes in 4.0 around this. Can you try testing this on 4.0?

I reloaded Open SUSE 10.0 and the new Zimbra 4.0 once again. The settings have now saved for using the Bind DN for and external ldap server.

Thank You

Now the next issue,
when I test the external ldap settings all works fine, I put in a username and password and the test runs successfully but when I put that same user/pass into the zimbra webmail login, the login fails.

after reading through postings I found the answer. There isn't a default account that is automatically generated when a new user attempts to login based on their ldap credentials so the accounts have to be setup in zimbra first.
