Default External LDAP

A centos 4.3 box is already running LDAP. I would like to install Zimbra on the box as well. Is it possible to link to the existing LDAP rather than zimbra installing its own?
thanks

You can use an external LDAP for authentication but the problem you have is that the zimbra version will want to use the same port. I seem to remember that the port for zimbra ldap can't be changed (or it causes problems if it is) so really an external LDAP should be on a different box.

it would be a great great improvement it zimbra moved its ldap to a nonstandard port. it's been strongly not recommended to use it for other purposes such as samba so really does get into the way on smaller installs.

out of interest, how does zimbra work on suse boxes? ldap is a very integral part of suse and runs on 389.

Is there no possibilty of moving your ldap to to a non-standard port and leave Zimbra on 389? If you see it as a feature enhancement then bugzilla is the place for that, see if it's already been mentioned and if not enter it as a new request and don't forget to vote on it.

I believe it works fine on SuSE although I'm a CentOS user so I can't confirm that from personal experience.

this is coming soon:

Bug 9754 - change LDAP port is fixed but there may be some work left on Bug 9128 - Change of LDAP port not propagated to postfix configuration
