[SOLVED] Postfix is not running

Hello!

Running: Release 6.0.6_GA_2324.UBUNTU8_64 UBUNTU8_64 FOSS edition.
inside a Ubuntu 8.04 VM... Had Zimbra working fine for over a year... Installed a new ldap infrastructure for my other machine and set this VM to authenticate to the LDAP master (did nothing with Zimbra)...

I noticed this morning that the MTA had an x... running zmcontrol status showed postfix is not running... Spent the better part of the afternoon looking on the forums and google found alot of information but nothing had my error messages... in fact I dont have any error messages... I have reinstalled zimbra from a clean install (ran install.sh -u to clean the old)

I am getting ready to install a new CentOS system and try that... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

How about running following command :

telnet localhost 25

Maybe you have an installed EXIM (or another) mail server on your Zimbra server.

Checked that, nothing else is running on port 25... it was running for almost a year... the only change was to allow the system to authenticate to a new LDAP master...

I have installed a CentOS system now and am trying a reinstall...

If you were authenticating against LDAP were the UID/GID for the Postfix users/groups the same as what was stored locally on the Zimbra server ?

I do not believe so... it was something else I did to the system... Even when I removed my LDAP config it still would not work... but it gave no indication as to what it was.

After a fresh install of CentOS I was able to get Zimbra installed fresh and working great! I guess I will put this down as one of those "keep track of your changes" notes... Thank goodness this is my home machine not work
