mail not being delivered

I have tried installing Zimbra many times on Debain 5, and Ubuntu 8.04LTS.

Mail never gets delivered and always ends up being differed and says that there is an error in processing.

Any ideas?

This occurs in 6.06 and 5.23

Without any information other than that it's difficult to give you an answer, did you search the forums for similar problems? Have you looked in the log files to see what the cause of the problem is? Have you set-up a Split DNS if you're behind a NAT router or firewall? If you have, there's many posts that cover the details of how to check if that's working (or set-up) correctly.

The email gets to the server okay but it has trouble getting through the spam and virus filter - both incoming and outgoing. If I turn off spam and virus filtering it works.

What do you mean by "trouble getting through the spam and virus filter"? Is it filed in the Junk folder, is it killed as spam? What errors (or messages) do you see in the log files? I'd also appreciate an answer to my previous questions. Post some headers from one of the emails.
