Default Likely timescale for Ubuntu 10.04 support

Someone has already asked about 10.04 LTS support and there's a bugzilla page (ref. 37461) suggesting it will be during first half of 2010.

To get a better idea, what is the usual policy for Zimbra creating versions for newly released distributions? Typically is it weeks after, or months? Thanks

Default Zimbra on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

Since today is the announced date for the new ubuntu release ( which is LTS ), i was wondering if we can have a timeframe ( estimated ) when will zimbra support server installs on it ? Nothing too pressuring, i just want to make a prediction of my upgrade procedure.

Thanks.

The next release after Bug 37461 – Ubuntu 10.04 Server LTS support & Bug 46688 – Nginx fails to compile on UBUNTU10 or other dependencies are resolved of course - but yes the plan is sometime in the 6.x series, won't have to wait for 7.x - one thing to note is that we're planning to only release 64-bit editions of new platforms.

What about all of us who use Zimbra on 32 bit - we're not suddenly going swap to 64bit... please support 32bit too.. otherwise I am going to have to dust of sendmail... joy!

and replace firefox with lynx?

zimbra builds will continue to come out in 32bit for platforms that already have it. so like if you're running ubuntu 8.04 or whatever now, 32bit builds will continue to come out i'd imagine at least for the lifetime of 6.x and probably 7.x too since it's not TOO far off. so you won't have to switch immediately.

this has already started happening. SLES 11 builds are 64bit only, but SLES 10 builds are 32bit and 64bit

People who want to experiment can try building UBUNTU10 64-bit off of main public branch.

Thanks for keeping us posted! No test server around at the moment, but I'll try on a VM later this month.

I can't vouch for the supportability and/or stabilility of the solution, but here is a quick how-to on getting Zimbra 6 running on Ubuntu 10.04: Zimbra Groupware Guides - Host Email and Calendars with Zimbra 6 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid) - Linode Library

YMMV, IANAL, etc
