okay did the uninstall then install again and during install i saw this as well

I found that openldap was already installed on the server so that might be the problem. so I am removing it now...

what's in /etc/sudoers? ldap gets started with sudo so there should be an entry like this (make sure the version path matches):

%zimbra ALL=NOPASSWD:/opt/zimbra/openldap-2.3.21/libexec/slapd
