Samba with OpenLDap

I have a RH ES 4 server running Samba 3 with an OpenLDAP backend. It is possible for Zimbra to use this existing LDAP directory? Or will I need to use Zimbra's LDAP directory instead?

If I were to install Zimbra on a different server, how would I configure replication between both servers? Would Zimbra have to be the master LDAP server?

You can configure Zimbra to auth against your currnet LDAP dir. You just specify a LDAP filter for Zimbra to check at login time.

Yes. We still need a local account to get mailbox and COS information. You could have scripts set up to make the Zimbra part automatic so you only have to manage you primary LDAP.

I'm sure there are others in the same situation as myself.
I would rather maintain a single directory.

zmprov is your friend. You just need to call that to create/modify/delete accounts when your master directory is changed.

You should be able to get the usage from running it like "zmprov help".

How do you specify to zimbra what LDAP server to use ?

Right now I have an openldap server which works with samba ... how do I get zimbra to use this server .

I ask because you have said that this is perferred to actually modifying the LDAP database that comes with zimbra itself and that is not working for me anyway .

Has anyone successfully integrated samba with zimbra's ldap ? Could you explain how you did it ...

I tried using smbldap-tools' smbldap-populate and it says 'modifications require authentication..' ...

Can someone point me in the right direction as I don't think I can figure this out . Thanks .
