Name service error for name=localhost.localdomain type=A: Host

hi , ive recently setup the zimbra vmware virtual appliance and have added my domain in the zimbra admin console however when i login i am able to send messages from my domain but cannot receive any emails sent to me.

my dns is hosted with my domain at bottledomains.com.au and ive setup an A record and MX record so im not sure what else it could be.

this is the error i get when i try to send an email to the mailserver "Name service error for name=localhost.localdomain type=A: Host" i havent had much experience with linux and postfix so im sorry if this is just something simple i havent setup.

another issue not quite as crucial at the moment is that i want to use ssl for the zimbra webmail however after searching the forums and finding the solution i tryed it with no luck, i logged into the zimbra virtual appliance as root and tryed the commands both didnt work giving me the error no such command:

zmtlsctl https
tomcat stop
tomcat start

zmtlsctl mixed
tomcat stop
tomcat start

Make sur eyour hosts file has your correct hostname / FQDN / and IP.

You can find more info on how to edit it by doing a search for hosts file.

my hosts file looks like this :

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.1.68 zimbra.jbaassociates.net zimbra

still no luck though i still get the same error Host or domain name not found. Name service error
for name=localhost.localdomain type=A: Host not found

could someone maybe give me a quick step by step for the options to change on the zimbra vmware image if thats easier to explain.

i downloaded the zimbra vmware virtual appliance and even after i added my fqdn and hostname to the hosts file i still couldnt get it to work so i decided to start a fresh vmware machine with fedora core 4 , after setting up fedora i downloaded the zimbra setup files from the site and installed it and at first i got an error saying there is no mx associated with my domain but after rechecking my hosts file i had found i made a typo. i think its alot more simple and easier to just build your own vmware image instead of using the prebuilt one that you can download i mean the zimbra folks did a great job with that setup file. ive only used linux 3 or 4 times and found this very very easy compared to trying to setup ms exchange and e.t.c on windows.

Please don't post duplicates, it makes it difficult to follow your threads. Search the forums for your answer, it is most likely a DNS issue. Post any resolution or questions to your other thread.
