Default two servers, DNS issues, install fails at LDAP

So after reading the forums, i'm pretty sure my install is failing at the LDAP step b/c my hostnames are not correct. Your assistance with this would be hugely appreciated.

I have one server, which all my MX records point to, which is currently running mail, serving http, running MySQL (no LDAP).
for discussion, say the MX points to: 1.2.3.4 mail.example.com
- DSL router has static IP of 1.2.3.4 and NAT's to 192.168.1.10
- 192.168.1.10 is the first server.
- ports 25 and 110 in use for mail on that server (#1).

I want to add Zimbra to the second server, with IP of 192.168.1.11

I added line to hosts file on .11 (2d server) such as:
192.168.1.11 zimbra.example.com

Install still fails.

If ports 25/110 are already in use on server #1, is this a problem?

Best steps for resolving this so i can get a clean DNS for Server #2 (zimbra.example.com) would be welcome.

thanks,
m

What does this return on each server?

host `hostname`

Basically try to get the IP for the name the server thinks it has.

Default host results

When i run host '1.2.3.4' for the IP Address of the DSL router itself, i get example.com (insert my actual domain name). The two servers in questions are local IP addresses, and don't return anything (192.168.1.10 and .11).

thx,
m

i think kevin was asking for the result of "host zimbra.example.com", like does it return "192.168.1.11". you need to have dns running locally with an a record for that.

perfect,

i'll setup DNS locally, make sure both machines resolve properly, and get back to you if i'm still stymied.

thx,

when i run:
# host 'zimbra.commpublish.com'
zimbra.commpublish.com has address 64.122.245.124
zimbra.commpublish.com has address 192.168.1.11
Host zimbra.commpublish.com not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

I have an MTA on Port 25 on the .10 machine. The Router NAT's port 25 to the .10 machine (not the .11 machine where i'm thing to install Zimbra

Thoughts?

thx,
m

You get two IP's back? We don't support multiple IP's really today, unless you have split DNS. So the "host `hostname`" must resolve to the local IP and *only* the local IP.
