Default DNS etc

Hi, firstly Register.com is not my ISP, my "test" domain is just registered with them and they host my DNS records etc for that domain.
So, when I want to edit my MX, txt records I go to my account there and do so.
Perhaps it's too early in the morning here ......... I'm not really sure I understand what your trying to do.
I get my google apps mail to my Zimbra account, simply by adding it as an external account from the Web mail app preferences / accounts section.
So, my Zimabra is set up with my "test" domain as the default domain and I have various "non essential" mail, go to that address. It is not a permanent thing.
I just do this for testing / experience and also have VM's set up for Axigen mail server, Communigate, Exchange 2010 and Scalix.
Regards, Peter.

Peter - Very sorry to trouble you and thank you for your input. I too have a company hosting my DNS, so I have setup Zimbra to point to those MX records but when I create an account via Zimbra administrator I have problems authenticating, do I need to setup smpt? or am I missing something?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi, as far as know, the MX record is only for sending / receiving mail, so systems know where mail has come from, therefore knows where to find you.
It has nothing to do with authentication.
Perhaps going to MX Check might help you, google it then follow the links. you can run tests for your domain to see where possible issues may lie.
You will also need to ensure your ports are open, it may mean you have to port forward from your WLAN facing connection to your mail server.
Commonly you will need as a minimum, ports 25, 443 and 995.
regards, Peter.
