Default [SOLVED] su zimbra problem.

I have a small prob.
Installed ZCS 6.0.3 on Fedora Core 11
everything ok, exept this:

[root@server named]# su zimbra
trying to create local folder /opt/zimbra/.kde: Permission denied
trying to create local folder /opt/zimbra/.kde: Permission denied

Any ideas? I can su zimbra, and it works fine, just gives this complaint message
I'm sure its permissions, but don't know if they have to be root or zimbra.

Help please

Couple of things - afaik zimbra user does not need a "home directory" which it looks like the system is trying to create. On my system, I created a home directory for the zimbra user so I could have a place to run some provisioning scripts to modify users.
Looking at your error, somehow it's trying to create the home dir on /opt/zimbra which is probably not good imho.
You could try something like usermod -d /home/zimbra zimbra but first, run "less /etc/passwd" and note where the home directory is currently set for user zimbra in case changing it makes the system angry... (it's the 2nd last field on the zimbra line - and it may be blank)
Peace

did usermod -d /home/zimbra zimbra
then su zimbra
got bash-4.0$
but changed back and no worse off than I was .

Default Solved

I fixed by adding directory list /opt/zimbra/.kde/share
now you su zimbra
and it just changes users with no complaints.

You should never use that command to become the Zimbra user it should always be:
Code:
su - zimbra
You should always use the hyphen ('-') so the correct environment gets created otherwise you may encounter problems.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am fairly new to this and I can't believe how fast I got responses. You'll be hearing from me again, I'm sure.

We too are having this problem. 1st noticed on upgrade and then we we run su - zimbra get this:
su - zimbra
mkdir: cannot create directory `/opt/zimbra/.kde': Permission denied
touch: cannot touch `/opt/zimbra/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc': No such file or directory
grep: /opt/zimbra/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc: No such file or directory
-bash: /opt/zimbra/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc: No such file or directory
-bash: /opt/zimbra/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc: No such file or directory

I infact checked for the .kde folder in /opt/zimbra and it does not exist (i have show hidden files enabled).

We use SLES10 and gnome as desktop. How do we fix this?

I think I just created all the required directories, changed permissions, and that took care of it.
