Default Help needed for installing Zimbra Network Edition

    Hi!
I got an error while installing Zimbra Network Edition like "It is suggested that the hostname be resolveabl via DNS".
Can any one help me what to do at this stage clearly, so that I can complete my installation.
    Thanks in advance.

You need to have a correct /etc/hosts file and the correct DNS MX & A records for zimbra to be installed correctly, the server that you're installing on needs to be resolvable by DNS. Have a search of the forums for some info.

    Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to install the zimbra package without it doing any DNS lookups, and configure the LDAP after the installation?

    Let me give the scenario:

I have to do the installation of the zimbra server at my office, but need to take the box to a client.

In other words, I don't know their A and MX RR in their zone files.

Not to be an ass, but if you are installing for a client, this should be on your pre-install check list. You can do look ups for this information.

    Thanks for the reply,

Fortunatly, this is just a scenario, and not a problem I'm facing at the moment.

The reason I was asking, is because I'm busy compiling such a pre-installation checklist. I am still relatively new to zimbra and DNS, and do not think of all the case scenarios that apply to a new client.

Good, you worried me a little

Best way to develop that (in my opinion, others feel free to add) is to do a couple of your own installs for a domain, document the steps, the from that define what you need from your clients prior to doing a dedicated box.
