can send but cannot receive

hi everyone.. please,i need some help!

i just installed zimbra suite 6 in my own ubuntu server.
I own a static ip and i already can send emails to everybody but i can not receive at all....

i cant figure out where i am wrong...can you help me?

You're actually giving no information about which version & release level of ZImbra you're using nor which operating system (release level) it's installed on nor what errors you are seeing nor any errors from the log files and absolutely no information about what you've found in the forums about how to fix this problem (there are many posts that cover this very topic).

The more research you do in the forums (and wiki) and the more information you give in the first place, the quicker your problem gets solved. It also saves everyone having to constantly ask the same questions.

after trying some other configurations,my problem remains.........
i can send emails,but i cannot receive....

here is my setup details:
server OS ubuntu 8.04 server (fully updated)
zimbra 6.0.2 GA 1912 (the latest one for ubuntu 32 bit)

my config files:

/etc/hosts
192.168.1.20 mail.mydomain.net
my external ip mail.mydomain.net


/etc/bind/named.conf.options
// query-source address * 53
forwarders
my external ip; dns hol; dns hol;


/etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 192.168.1.20
nameserver 195.xx.xxx.xxx (external ip)
nameserver 192.168.1.1


/etc/hostname
zeus



i also get this error on boot my server....

sadc not enabled in /etc/default/sysstat


can you give me some advice please? thank you for your attention!

From a external host

dig yourdomainname mx

and see which server your mail exchange record is pointing out. If that is correct then also telnet to your server on port 25 and see whether it responds.

Your /etc/hosts is completely wrong aswell; so I would recommend reading through the documentation again.

As you server appears to be on a private IP behind a firewall you will also need to setup a wiki :: Split DNS architecture.

You need a Split DNS set-up on your LAN, search the wiki for the word 'ubuntu'

This is totally incorrect which you could have found by searching the forums, the details of the format for this file are in the Quick Start Installation Guide - fix that problem and your Split DNS then post the output of the commands I asked you for earlier.

i'm just curious becase a friend of mine said that this setup is weird and he had not do alla this steps....anyway,i believe what you say..........

There are certain steps you must follow to install any software, the Quick Start Installation Guide will tell you what they are. Two specific thing you need are a correct /etc/hosts file and valid DNS A & MX records to resolve the LAN IP address of the Zimbra server. Read the guide and set-up a Split DNS server and you'll be fine.

for my setup....the only thing is that i use vmware server to run my ubuntu servers AND i have already set up a web server running....(in it,i have bind installed)

my mail server runs as an indipentent v-machine....do i have to install bind there also?
i'm so confused.... this is the third day i spend to run my mail.......and still searching....
forgive my ignorance please....i'm still learning! so please be more specific if possible....

Well, the link you've posted tells you exactly what you need to put in the hosts file and also the DNS configuration changes you need to make.

If the Ubuntu guide doesn't explain it in enough detail then see if this Split DNS article is any better, that describes the configuration of BIND (in this case RHEL), as I said BIND can be installed on any machine on your LAN.

sorry Bill for being such a dummy....please...one more thing.....i already have bind installed to another virtual machine that runs as a web server (that part works fine....)
so i do not have to install once again bind in my (other virtual ) mail server?
