How much memory do you have on your system? For systems with less than 1GB folks have had to tweak our defaults. (We will adjust our defaults for the next milestone build)

Take a look at this thread:

Installation fails, possible mysql problem

Also may want to check your mysql.log

Default what does mysqld log say?

Any indications in /opt/zimbra/log/mysqld.log?
