Default [SOLVED] DNS/MX Question

Hi All - I'm new to zimbra and i'm having difficulty with the initial configuration. Specifically DNS.

I logged into the admin console, created another domain, and created an MX record on my internal DNS server.

When I go into the 'General Information' tab under the newly created domain, and click 'Check MX Record' I get the following message:

'Domain is configured to use SMTP host: (server name here). None of the MX records match this name.
Found the following MX records:
10 (server name here).domain.local

any advice?

If the server's FQDN was server.domain.local is the MX tool showing this?:
Code:
Domain is configured to use SMTP host: server. None of the MX records match this name.
Found the following MX records:
10 server.domain.local
If so you should check your /etc/hosts file and verify that it looks like is recommended in the installation guide.

I too have a local only domain and a public domain. For the public domain to not try and find itself on the local only/default domain I had to go to the admin panel then:
Domains >
publicdomain.com
Enter in the public MX record for Inbound SMTP Host Name (eg. mail.publicdomain.com). The DNS requests then resolved properly and I just added a hosts file entry to the local IP since I'm natted.

I'd be curious if there is a more appropriate way of doing this though.

If you search the wiki for "Split DNS" you'll learn more than wanted to know about how Zimbra relies on DNS.

Hope that helps,
Mark
