Is that a question or a statement? If you think ZD is slow then perhaps you should try ZD 2 beta1. They also serve two different functions, Zimbra Desktop is an offline client i.e. you can access your downloaded mail and work on it when there's no internet connection.

I have ben testing a new alternative to Zimbra Toaster. It's called Zimbra Notifier and can be downloaded from here:
Habitech

It has many advantages as the following:
* Notifies appointment items as well as mail items
* Works in all windows versions, from Windows 98 to Windows 7
* Doesn't requires heavy frameworks as .net nor Java
* Changes the icon when a new mail arrives and cleans it when it's marked as read or deleted.
* Configurable alert mechanism (modal window, sound, alert balloon in Taskbar Notification Area)
* Allows omission of the spam folder elements
* Obeys polling interval from the Zimbra Preferences
* It weights less than 100 Kb in size
* Define your own Notification Rules using regular expressions
* Translated to more than 13 languages (English Español Deutsch Française Italiano Português Russian Swedish Netherlands Chinese Japanese Korean Polish)

best regards

Does Notifier work with a proxy server?

NVM - From the site:

Handles outgoing Proxy Authentication Requests
Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, it supports connecting through a proxy server, it uses the Microsoft Internet Explorer's connection settings. In fact it uses Internet Explorer dll to internally connect to Zimbra Server.

Just want to point out to anyone following this thread that Zimbra Notifier is not free. Nothing wrong with that at all, and in fact I've tested it before and it seems to work very well, with lots of options/features. I just find it a bit disappointing that the Zimbra Toaster, which was included with ZCS and had some promise in my opinion, has been abandoned by Zimbra, and we're now left to search for 3rd party options for "real" new mail / calendar notifications. I thought I read somewhere that the code for the Toaster was going to be released to the public, so there could be some hope that someone will grab a hold of it and update / improve it, but as far as I know it hasn't been released yet.
