Default Is that possible to use Zimbras only as an IMAP client of an external MTA?

Hello.

Just for a while (to make some tests) I want to use Zimbra only as an WEBMAIL, and more specifically, an webmail that is an IMAP client of another mail server.

So, is that possible to do that?

I have everything installed and running, I just don't know if I can do that.

How can I proceed?

It's not my intention to put Zimbra as my master server of everything before make tests with the most important (to me) resource: an IMAP webmail that reads/writes messages using a external MTA.

After the tests, if people approves the tool, I can make the huge changes.

Thanks!

Have you tried adding this IMAP server as an external account in your user preferences?

I have to make it global!

So, just add an external user account isn't enough.

Hmmm... are you saying that you basically want to use the Zimbra web interface but a different server as the backend? As far as I know this is impossible.

yep, thats exactly what you said. I want to use a different MTA backend, and just use Zimbra web interface (specificaly the webmail).

So, you are a moderator, I suppose you have a big knowledge about the system.

How can I confirm your information?

tks

Wait for somebody else to say I'm wrong

If all you want to do is test out the web interface instead of installing a Zimbra server and then trying to find some hack to get it to ignore most of it's functionality you should probably look into Zimbra Desktop as that is basically the Zimbra web interface as a wrapper around a custom mail client, which will allow you to have the Zimbra web interface while using IMAP to your existing server.

The problem with this is that just like adding an external account, this is a per user thing.

You can trust what you've been told or you can search the forums as this has been asked many times or I'll tell you the same thing - Zimbra Web UI can only be used against a Zimbra server as that's what it's designed for and it's not a general purpose web client.
