Zimbra using Lighttpd instead of Apache on FC11

Hi.

I'd like to know whether anyone has successfully installed Zimbra on a machine with Lighttpd? Or configure it to use Lighttpd instead of apache? The reason why I ask is because the server where we're installing the Zimbra already has Lighttpd installed and that's the webserver we use. We don't really want to introduce apache in the system.

Also, will installation of Zimbra failed if we decided not to install the LDAP? Having problem with the zimbraldap installation. Please advise? Many thanks everyone. :-)

Zimbra is supplied as a complete package, you can't split the packages or replace any of the supplied packages. Yes, Zimbra will fail to work if you don't install LDAP - it's used for configuration in Zimbra and must be installed.

What about Lighttpd? Has anyone successfully install Zimbra and change the webserver from apache to Lighty?

I have not heard of anyone doing so.

The one thing that has not happened (as far as I can tell) is the creation of zimbra-xxx.deb and zimbra-xxx.rpm packages that are just zimbra and allow you to use the distributions ldap,postfix, apache-httpd, tomcat, nginx, spamassin, courier-imap server, mysql, courier-pop server, and java (did I get them all?).

The first big advantage to a minimal zimbra package would be that the processes would run as six or so users instead of the current one user, and the zimbra ecosystem would be much larger, making exploits much harder to automate.

However, if you are looking to put zimbra behind a reverse proxy, it shouldn't be too hard to look at the nginx configuration and modify it for lighttpd.
