mysql dead

Hi,

Everything works in my zimbra 5.0.12 except logger. When I go to admin webpage it says logger must be installed. When I zmcontrol status it says logger not started. When I logmysql.server start it says done but then logmysql.server status says it is not running.
When I try upgrading to 5.0.18 it gets to logger database intergrety check it says:

Starting mysqld...done.
/opt/zimbra/logger/mysql/bin/mysqlcheck: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/zimbra/logger/db/mysql.sock' (2) when trying to connect
No Logger DB errors found.
/opt/zimbra/logger/mysql/bin/mysqlcheck --defaults-file=/opt/zimbra/conf/my.logger.cnf -S /opt/zimbra/logger/db/mysql.sock --silent -u root --password=(***) --auto-repair --databases mysql zimbra_logger command failed:


I even tried zmmyinit and it says it can't connect to mysql.
Please help I am stuck

Hmmm, could be your /etc/hosts file is not correct. So please post the following

cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/resolv.conf
dig yourdomain mx
dig yourdomain any
host `hostname` <- note backticks and not single quotes

Have you also disabled IPTables and SELinux ?

Hi,
If 127.0.0.1 is define in names other than localhost, mysql will have issues.

I tried changing the password as it says in the wiki but can't get connected to mysql to change the password. The logmysql.server start does not start the server.

Are permissions fine? would you mind running zmfixperms ? Also check if there is stale logger/db/mysql.sock file

You appear to have no A record for your domain, you should fix that.

I do have an A record, I wonder why dig did not show it.
