Question zimbra integration / already have functional mail server

hello,

i have to integrate zimbra CS in one company, that have their mailserver - postfix with openldap(accs for mail, samba share, windows ad). this mail server is backuped with netbackup, so there are a lot of servers working together.

is it possible to install zcs and this zcs will use postfix and emails from 1.server, ldap from 2.server and zcs is running on 3.server??

this mail server has about 1000 mail accounts, so it is quite difficult to migrate them.

new server for zimbra is SunFire X2100 with RHEL5.

thank you.

Welcome to the forums

No, ZCS is a complete suite which already includes Postfix, Amavis, OpenLDAP etc.

Yes you can you use a external LDAP service for account authentication; as long as it exists in ZCS aswell. Email sending and delivery would be handled by ZCS aswell so no need for the other Postfix installation.

But you could turn that separate postfix server into a mail filtering/scanning server (edge MTA) that would then deliver "good" messages through to the zimbra server.

That way, incoming messages would go through the posftix server, and be delivered to the zimbra server.

Users logging into the zimbra server would authenticate against the ldap server (zimbra configure with external auth).

Outgoing messages would go from the zimbra server to the postfix server, and then out to the internet.

This is virtually the same setup that we use. Works quite nicely.

Good call Freddie ::: Official Home Page for MailScanner - Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Filter ::: would work very nicely in that setup
