Using nginx for non-Zimbra proxy tasks

Hello,

Is it possible to use the nginx proxy service in Zimbra (open source) for other than Zimbra-specific proxy tasks? I've read the admin doc and the related wiki docs, all of which have useful info, but nothing touches on this that I can find. I've tried modifying the files in /zimbra/conf and zimbra/conf/nginx with no result one way or the other - can't even break it

I may be in a position where I need to service general proxy tasks via the Zimbra server.
