I didn't think about that. Right now our router doesn't support that, but Ill make sure future versions do.

Can I add a line like this in /opt/zimbra/postfix/main.cf to have a backup mx:

relay_domains = $mydestination, backupdomain.com, secondbackupdomain.com

That is just for what domains you can receive for.

Pointing your second MX record to a server with that setup will act as backup server and hold all mails untill the first server is back online.

Never tried it with Zimbra but it should work.

No that's not the way to do it.

You really don't want to host a backup MX yourself as it's a target for spammers. You'd be far better using a professional service that provides that fucntion, I have my DNS records hosted at easyDNS and they provide a backup mail server - it holds mail for up-to five days and when the server is up again it gets forwarded to your server. You'll find other services like that if you do an internet search, they're not free (usually) but they're usually inexpensive.

Maybe you're right but I'm using my own servers in the datacenter as backup mailserver for my Zimbra. For me this looks like a perfect sollution.

depending on what type of router you have you can plug the T1 into it as well as the DSL and use OSPF to route and receive mail when either one of your links die. just make sure to add the secondary MX for the respective connection and IP's. Cisco 2611XM will do just fine.
