Default Zimbra Upgrade

What is the zimbra upgrade process like? I didnt see anything on the zimbra wiki about it. I did find something for upgrading from RHEL 4 to RHEL 5. But nothing about upgrading from like zimbra 4 to zimbra 5.

I'm curious because I want to start reading up and preparing for the upgrade from 5 to 6.

Thanks!

The upgrade from 5 to 6 should be as effortless as a regular upgrade. I've not personally tried it yet, but the 4 to 5 upgrade was fine and I see no reason why the Zimbra team would make the process tricky.

I've never done an upgrade. So the process is pretty simple? I'd just hate to have it kill my server lol. Or me make a mistake and kill it I should say.

The nice thing about zimbra installations is that it's quite self contained. Generally, you can just take a copy of /opt/zimbra and put it somewhere safe and then if the upgrade goes badly, move the backup back in place and you can start the services quite easily.

That's not to say it's foolproof, problems do happen. The safest way if you are concerned would be to build a copy server, and copy the /opt/zimbra to it and perform the upgrade on the copy, so you can do it without touching the real server at all. Then upgrade the real server when you are happy with the process.
