Default Install Zimbra to work with other POP3 and SMTP server

Hi there,

I've been trying Zimbra OpenSource Edition Server.

My first question;

Our organisation have two different servers serving POP3 and SMTP.

What can I do to make sure my Zimbra server able to successfully connect to these servers?

I've read articles about fetchmail. The problem is, there are 600 users in the system, and I don't think I'll be able to setup username and password for each users manually.

Second Question;

How many users are allowed for Zimbra OpenSource Edition?

Thank you

Welcome to the forums

Why can't Zimbra be used as the main mail server ? Why do you need another SMTP and POP3 server ?

You can create as many accounts as you like; your are only limited by your hardware.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Yes, I think we can do something about SMTP.

But, you see, the current server supporting POP3 is and old Sun server which we try not to make any changes, and doesn't have the capacity to support Zimbra.

Is there any option for this, other then using fetchmail?

Thanks

Zimbra supports POP3 so why not just use your ZCS server instead of your old Sun server ?

I don't really know how to transfer user accounts.

There are around 600 users in the system, I don't think I would be able to recreate their accounts one by one in the new server.

hafizi,

You can migrate existing user account and password from solaris to zimbra.

Still got problem.

Apparently, I'm handling 300gb of Mbox files. Feel like it is better to change to Maildir files. Still unable to follow through the instructions for the migration.

The structure of my Mbox using openwebmail as the interface;

/var/www/cgi-bin/openwebmail/etc/users/USERNAME/mail/MBOXES

How could do an automated transfer process for 600 users to a proper maildir format?

TK

If I'm not mistaken, openwebmail use IMAP to connect to local mailserver by default, unless you configure it using POP, then all your user mail, goes to openwebmail user folders.

There are other options can be done.
1) Check if it is on imap or pop.
Check what IMAP/POP3 server your r using. e.g. UWIMAP, Cyrus?..

2a) if Imap
- easily migrate using imapsync

2b) If pop and all mail copied to openwebmail folder
- check if your ...USERNAME/mail/MBOXES is in normal flatfile mbox format, then we can do simple trick.
- normally what I would do, copy MBOXES to normal /var/mail/user. Then enable imap, and sync using imapsync.
- probably there are other tools available.

PM me if you need service in your area.
