Cannot start zimbra (fresh ubuntu 8.04 installation)

Hello,
read through the thread, similar threads did not solve my issue:

I get:
Host localhost
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.

>dig mail.server.com mx
does not have an answer section, even though the ISP claims its set properly,

>dig mail.server.com any has a proper answer section with the ip address.

I couldnt figure out the fqdn dig? How should my hosts file look like? resolv.conf is correct: it points to the two DNS name servers

Can you please help a novice getting booted?

If you server is on a private IP behind a firewall/router you will need to setup a Wiki :: Split DNS architecture. If you would post the following aswell we shall be able to help better

do not replace hostname with your servername! Let the command work it out instead.

host `hostname` yields:
Host SJPbuntu not found 3(NXDOMAIN)

Your hostname does not match what you have defined in /etc/hosts ! You need to resolve that first so check /etc/hostname.

Apologies for thread jacking here... does the split DNS still apply if the firewall does DNS doctoring? IE: on a Cisco PIX a static translation would look like

providing the proper DNS lookup depending whether you are on the outside or inside.

set hostname= local machine name ; [not the public name]

oops Wiki DNS seems a must,
as my NAT is not enough, so I have to start diggin.. Thxs for the hint!
