Default Installing with own MTA already in place??

    hi,

I want to try out the open source version, but already have a tuned MySQL, Postfix, Apache and don't have a spare blank server to install Zimbra on from scratch. Has anyone tried to install just parts of Zimbra (war file??) without doing the full install of all the pieces i already have??

    Thanks,
    mark

    Hi

    Welcome to the forums.

I'm afraid you'll have to get rid of postfix for Zimbra to install, you can change the port Tomcat listens on or use a virtualhost to forward requests to tomcat, other than that the other applications should be OK providing you meet the minimum recommended spec for hardware. Zimbra is meant to be installed as a package and isn't designed to be installed as seperate pieces.
    Regards

    thanks Bill,

what's special about postfix? does Zimbra have SpamAssassin or other spam/virus filters?

    thx,

ps - i'm clearing out another box, but i might not have it ready in time for a clean install, so might need to try this approach.

Well, postfix runs on port25 as does Zimbra - and Zimbra uses it's own instance of postfix for it's mailserver.

Zimbra does also have Spamassassin & DSPAM spam filters plus clamav for anti-virus checking.

    hi again,
    super-appreciate the prompt replies.

is there a doc which describes porting an existing email system into Zimbra? I have about 20 users, info in MySQL using authdaemon, IMAP. rather than starting from scratch, these are the folks i would want to seed the new installation.

    thanks,
    m

There's an article in the wiki here that describes migrating with imapsync.
