Default SMTP Relay Assistance

Hi,

I am new to Zimbra so I apologize if this an obvious problem. Never-the-less I appreciate any help you can provide.

Our email is hosted at a third party, justhost.com. Our ISP does not provide email relay services. Therefore, I am stuck with Zimbra sending email to the third party to relay. The third party requires authentication using the account from which the email is being sent. Currently Zimbra sends the messages as user@myserver.localdomain.com instead of as user@publicdomain.com. Is there an easy way to have Zimbra send the email messages from the public domain instead of the internal domain?

THANKS

Welcome to the forums

You can add your actual domain as a alias within the Admin GUI, and then either create a alias for each of your users who get them to create a persona from within the web client under Preferences -> Accounts. Or if you wanted to keep it simple you could use a third party service like DynDNS :: Outbound Relay Service though there are others around; I just happen to use this one myself

When I try to add an alias I get the following error message:

Target account/dl myaccount@publicdomain.com doesn't exist

Some how I am not getting DNS resolution to the public domain. What am I missing? THANKS

Did you actually create that domain in Zimbra? You can't add an alias unless the domain exists.

Even after creating a new domain I am still getting the same error message. Any other thoughts?

Do you have DNS records that point to your server for that domain name? Are you behind a NAT router?
