Default Installation problems. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server

For the life of me I can not figure out what is the exact problem. I am setting up a test mailserver, using network edition trial. The problem is when I run zmcontrol status i get
Code:
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Unable to determine enabled services. Cache is out of date or doesn't exist.
When i try to start i get the same problems. any help would be greatly appreciated.

This was a fresh installation and no other service conflicts are abound. Here is the output from the commands that you all will be asking for.

Output of /etc/hosts
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost

As your server is on a private LAN IP you'll need a Split DNS set-up, check the details in this article: http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?tit..._Install_Guide

Your /etc/hosts file is incorrect, check the Quick Start Installation Guide for the correct format.

Do I really need split DNS.. I was hoping not to have to use it. Is there a way around this?

Default Hosts file output

Instead of - 10.20.10.216 mail mail.temalime.com

Should be - 10.20.10.216 mail.temalime.com mail

And yes, split DNS with an internal DNS server will be required.
