Default Missing Startup Script (cannot determine services)

I completed a fresh install of CentOS 4.3, then the latest ZCS release. Everything goes fine until I reboot the machine. I then receive a Cannot Determine Services error when I type zmcontrol status.

I encountered the same problem on a Suse machine when I installed the latest ZCS release.

I've attempted to follow the threads on this issue, but I've been unable to resolve the problem.

The one thing I've noticed is that I don't appear to have any startup scripts for Zimbra in /init.d or any links in the /rc.d directories.

I've attached the zimbra.log and install.log files for review.

For the record, I'm not running a firewall or SElinux.

This message:
Code:
Apr 20 09:50:02 mail sendmail[17245]: k3KDo1JO017245: to=zimbra, ctladdr=zimbra (502/503), delay=00:00:01,
indicates to me that sendmail is running. Did you disable it before you did the install? Have you stopped it from running at boot time?

Have a look in Services Configuration and make sure it's disabled.

I saw the sendmail reference, but I was unclear whether it *really* was referring to sendmail or to postfix.

chkconfig --list | grep sendmail show nothing is running

Not being a linux expert but that command only show the runlevels and not whether it's running, doesn't it? Just to put my mind at rest can you telnet to port 25 on your server and see if you get a response?

it doesn't look like the installation was succcessful. what is the result of these commands (note the backticks around hostname):

su - zimbra
host `hostname`
cat /etc/hosts
ldap status
telnet localhost 389

I followed through the LDAP posts, even the LDAP wiki. But I was unable to get things working.

Like I said I've encountered this both on Suse and CentOS. Prior to the 3.1 release I didn't have this issue (at least not with Suse...I hadn't tried on CentOS prior to 3.1).

OK, then I guess we go back to basics. What's in your /etc/hosts file? Do you have a DNS server install and is it set-up correctly? What do the commands that bobby asked you give as output?
