Default hostname = domain name?

Just wondering, does the hostname, the actual computer name, does it have to match the domain name? does it have to be the external domain too?

Say your computer name is box10.localdomain.com but you want it to host mail.internetdomain.com, do i name the box mail.internetdomain.com or box10.localdomain.com?

TIA.

Default MX record issue.

I prefer my machine name to equal my MX record. But it may be OK as long as the correct postfix directive is set. I know postfix looks for an MX record equal to your machine name during install. But it may work if the banner directive is set properly.
