i came to know that this is due to not have a FQDN for my system. by reading Zimbra document quick_start file, the FQDN shoud be set during the instalation of FC4 which i didn't do. now i want ot know how to get a FQDN and is it nessessary to have a FQDN to run Zimbra correctly and fully,
if so why?

waiting for ur response.......

Yes, you need to have a FQDN set in your hosts file and DNS but you don't need a 'real' domain name unless your mail server is reachable from the internet.

Why? That's because real mail servers are reachable from the internet and need a FQDN, the same rule will also ap[ply to 'home' users and people with domain names that aren't visible to the internet.
