Default Active Directory GAL Problem

I'm trying to connect to our Active Directory in order to use the GAL, but although I recieve a 'test successful' I never see any results returned from a search ie. s=* or sg=* or mail=*.

I've searched the forums to no avail.
I'm using the domain administrator's account to bind to the AD and I do see a problem if I don't use an account to authenticate so it must be connecting.
I've tried various things in the search base box, but to no effect.

Should the search base be something like?:
"dc=example,dc=com"
Or "ou=Domain Users,dc=example,dc=com"
Neither work.

Authenticating user accounts using the Active Directory works just fine.

I'd love any help!

Search base depends on how your users are stored. Can you dump the ldap attributes or the DN for one of your users?

Can you connect to AD with an LDAP browser? If so then yo could walk the tree to figure out how your AD is setup.

Can you use the Active Directory Users and Computers MMC instead? You're ldap base is right there in it. It's the path, the tree structure.

Generally the dc=example,dc=com part is whatevers at the top of the tree in the ADUaC tool. Then theres OU's under that, usually.

Thanks for your suggestions, I managed to figured it out.
I tried entering a name (without s= , etc) in the search box and the results came up just fine, I don't what I was doing wrong other than that. I'm sure I tired that earlier, I'm not a newbie.

Oh well on to the Exchange co-existence testing!
