Ok this is getting very interesting.
I'm definitely looking at a dedicated server, with a VM for Zimbra and another for MySQL/Apache2/PHP5
The way OVH manages VMs sounds pretty excellent!

It would be a big advantage for us to have our intranet DB and Zimbra running within the same internal network, since there's some cool Zimlets that I'm planning to integrate.

However we're about to have a rather short-notice office move so I reckon we'll continue with Exchange (urrgh!) for another few months until ZCS6 is released Mar/Apr time
Then this is definitely something we'll have to look at

    Thanks for all the info

No problem we shall see you then and any Zimbra development would be very interesting

Ok one final question, more about virtualising Zimbra.
Seems OVH has a special VMWare Server installation that runs on a customised Debian Etch, so I guess that's all quite minimal and streamlined.

But rather than installing a full Ubuntu Server 8.04, I found this thing called JeOS. This appears to be a streamlined version of Ubuntu Server, designed specifically for running inside a VM.

Will Zimbra install ok on JeOS?
Or are there certain packages required by Zimbra that only exist in the full Ubuntu Server 8.04?

    Thanks, Ben-B

ZCS works very nice on JeOS.
But as JeOS is tiny, you'll need to install quite a lot of additionnal packages to be able to use ZCS (don't forget the "file" one).

    Ok that's good news
Is there a list of the required packages anywhere?

Do I need to install them in advance of installing ZCS?
Or can I attempt to install Zimbra which generates warnings of which packages are missing, then install the packages, then install Zimbra again?
