My IE users are experiencing this problem also. Internet Explorer 7, fully patched from Windows Update, Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Have not experienced the issue at all on Firefox, 3.0.3 fully patched.

In my scenario, we are not on an Active Directory domain, and Internet Explorer configuration is out of the box, as it comes from Windows Update.

Default Having the same issue.

Just upgraded yesterday (10/19/2008) from 5.0.4 to 5.0.10 FOSS on Redhat (Centos 5).

I noticed this problem with a buy.com e-newsletter. I also got a call from a remote user having the same problem with insurance company type emails.

I tested with a known email that did not have the problem before the upgrade and it has the problem now. I get the same script timeout error if I click on the link to "Display Images".

On two machines one is XP PRO SP2 IE7 with all critical updates the other is XP PRO SP3 IE7 with all critical updates. No changes to either OS or Browser between having the problem and not having it. The only change was the upgrade to the Zimbra server.

I have confirmed that mail displayed in text format does not produce the error.

Please post to this thread if/when a bug report is assigned.

Kind regards,
Ken

Default Same script error bug, IE6 included

Like the previous poster, we've also just upgraded from 5.0.4 to 5.0.10, both open source editions. We're in an AD environment with default installations of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), along with some test machines still loaded with Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), both of which are experiencing the same script error(s) when viewing HTML e-mails:

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?

Mozilla Firefox v2 and Firefox v3 work great out of the box. I've attempted to toggle several security settings in both IE versions (i.e. Security Level, Privacy Level, Disable/Enable Third-party extensions, etc.) to no avail. Another poster requested the Bug#, so here it is:

Bug 31964 Javascript error when reading HTML mail - P1 - Major Severity

Looks like it's a common problem among many 5.0.10 installs/upgrades. Like other posters mentioned, this problem appears only on SOME, not ALL, HTML e-mails. Hope this one gets fixed soon -- I've got quite a few of annoyed users...

Talking Posted replacement files for affected scripts

If anyone is still experiencing this problem w/ 5.0.10, I posted some drop-in replacement files using the fix provided by Andy Clark in bugzilla. (Bug 31964 – Javascript error when reading HTML mail) It worked great (tested IE 6.0.2900.5512 + IE 7.0.5730.11) with my install...

You can download from the bug page listed above, or from my server:

http://averageanalogs.com/zimbrafix/Zimbra-5.0.10-FOSS-Manual%20IE%20Fix.zip

Just extract to the appropriate directories, backup/rename your original files, and remove the .new extension(s) from the provided replacements. Also make sure to chmod/chown the files for the appropriate zimbra user. Hope this helps someone!

Edit: Just thought I'd also add that another user reported my replacement files seem to work just fine with 5.0.10 Network Edition. Again, consult the Bug 31964 page on bugzilla for more details.

Hi tsoul,

You have a couple different options now that the bug has been resolved... You can upgrade your installation to the newest 5.0.10 release (that has the fix integrated) or you can use my replacement files. What flavor of Linux are you using? Ubuntu? RHEL? CentOS?

There are some brief instructions that I posted in bugzilla (Bug 31964 – Javascript error when reading HTML mail) alongside the replacement files, but here they are again:

First, download the zip file I've posted in the thread or on bugzilla... Second, extract those files to /opt/zimbra/jetty/webapps/zimbra/js , or extract to your home directory and move them to the specified folder. ALL of these files, excluding the one inside of the nested folder, belong in your /opt/zimbra/jetty/webapps/zimbra/js directory. The file in the nested folders (ZmMailMsgView.js.new) belongs in the directory /opt/zimbra/jetty/webapps/zimbra/js/zimbraMail/mail/view/ . The next step is to start covering your butt in case something does go wrong with the replacement files (which I wouldn't anticipate, but you never know). Rename your existing files in the two directories listed above to something like Calendar_all.js.ORIGINAL, Calendar_all.js.zgz.ORIGINAL, etc. Next, remove the .new suffix from my replacement files and your done!

If anything doesn't work right with the replacement files, simply delete them and remove the .ORIGINAL suffix from your original files.

Also, make sure to chmod/chown your files to zimbra:zimbra. As a note, I did NOT take my server (FOSS edition) down during this procedure, it stayed running live. Hope this helps! Take care + goodluck,

>JR

Default Patch

I applied the patch to my fresh Ubuntu install and the problem still exists with IE.

- Rob

By the way, there are 2 errors on the patch instructions:

Step 6, at the end of the line, zmMailMsgView.js should be ZmMailMsgView.js. (z should be Z)

PDF Instructions

Type chown –R patch/* should be Type chown –R zimbra.zimbra patch/*

You should probably post those notes in the thread that links to the patch (5.0.10 Patch)... What I've posted are replacement files, though you're spot on with some of the syntax error(s).

If the patch isn't working, you can try the replacement files on my above post (working w/ FOSS + NE versions of Zimbra 5.0.10) or just download the latest zimbra and upgrade/overwrite. Good luck.

I tried posting a reply to the patch announcement but that is not permitted so I posted here.

Thanks for the tips.
