Default internal Zimbra installation w/o DNS-server

Hello,

is it possible to setup/install an (internal) Zimbra mailserver without running DNS server (for testing and evaluation purposes) ?

Thank's a lot!

John

PS
We do know that for our environment a Split-DNS setup would be required..

You will require a DNS setup as Zimbra needs to be able to resolve the MX records for your domain(s).

Thank's uxbod for the feedback. Do you know if a DNS server can be setup for meeting the Zimbra-requirements without connection to the ISP/internet?

Yes you can install a Split DNS - Zimbra :: Wiki architecture which is local to your ZCS server, and as indicated in the Wiki should only be used by ZCS and not other hosts.

Hello,

thank's a lot for the helpful informations: I forgot to mention that it should
be possible to to have external users (from the internet) accessed our
Zimbra-server by typing www.ourcompany.com/mail (www.ourcompany.com is hosted extenally)

As I understand to achive that it's required to add a DNS entry for mail.ourcompany.com
and point the www records at the host and the mail record at your zimbra server.

Does the suggested Split-DNS setup allow this?

Thank's a lot for any feedback!

John
