Default Zimbra on Ubuntu 6.06, GRUB error 2 after reboot

I run Zimbra on a virtual machine (vmserver) using Zimbra on Ubuntu 6.06.
Installation perfect we used it for some weeks.

Yesterday I had to restart the host so I made the normal shutdown of Ubuntu 6.06.
After the restart when I relaunched the vm, GRUB says : error 2 and stops.
That's insane since the installation was untouched (except updates from ubuntu)!

Now I'm in terrible problem since my 25 users cannot access emails, also even if I can manage (I hope) to get back a backup, my question is: could it happen again?.

Any help veeery welcome!
Thanks
McLois

an update that went awry could easily have caused this, especially if it was updating hte kernel or boot loader. could it happen again? sure, but the odds of zimbra being behind this is very, very low as it does not do anything as root really past installation.

you will probably need to try an ubuntu rescue disk

Of course Zimbra has nothing to do with it (it's rock solid), my hint was to check if ubuntu 6.06 can be considered a certified OS, since that problem is quite hard to solve.

by the way, Fedora9 is crtified for Network edition? (in installation manual you find the instrucitions but in download area it was not considered one of the available..)

Thanks

Why not? This sort of problem can happen with any system upgrade that gets terminated part way through, your system can be screwed. Being 'certified' doesn't mean your immune from the vagaries of lost connections, corrupt downloads, lost power etc......

No Fedora version has ever been available for NE, we don't certify Zimbra NE on bleeding edge distributions. The only supported versions of Zimbra NE are the ones that run on these distributions: http://www.zimbra.com/products/downloads.html
