Default New server

We are planning to replace our current server with a new one. I have two questions regarding a new server for optimal results.

First one is the operating system, What si recommended at this point, ubuntu 6 or 8? Currently we use 6, if we use 8 on our new server, can the backup be restored to Ubuntu 8?

Second one is the disk configuration. What is the optimal configuration for Zimbra. We do need a lot of storage, we would like to support 200 accounts with a limit of 2GB per account. The backup should run also of course. We our self thought that you use a raid 5 configuration for the store and the backup directory's. And a raid 1 for the OS and the mysql database. Or should everything be on one raid array?

Could someone advise me in what to use?

Ubuntu 8 isn't currently supported for NE, it will be supported in the next 5.0.9 release as beta. You should also not be using RAID5, a RAID10 set-up will be the one to use.

Where can I find that Ubuntu 8 is beta support in version 5.0.9? I only find Bug 23154 – Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron, I can not find that is it only beta support. I do not feel very comfortable using a beta in a production enviroment. We are using the netwerk edition by the way.

And I think we gonna use 64bits procs so also 64 bits ubuntu.

You mean apart from the fact I've just told you? We haven't actually announced the availability of 5.0.9 or the Ubuntu 8 version yet but the coment in comment 116 of the bug report should answer your question.

I'm sorry, I just checked pm and with 5.0.9 it simply says Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron, I did not read all the comments. Thanks for pointing me to it. This would mean I have to stay at 6.06 and upgrade as soon as full support is present.

[QUOTE=bramm;103463This would mean I have to stay at 6.06 and upgrade as soon as full support is present.[/QUOTE]That doesn't mean it won't work, just that this initial release would be considered beta. The choice on whether to change to Ubuntu 8 must be yours, I'm afraid.
