Default Upgrade questions

We had a server go bad with a bad hard drive and are now in the process of deciding on what to do with fixing it. This was the server hosting our vmserver which Zimbra was on. I was able to get the vm image off of the box and onto another one so it is working fine.

Since we are going to have to make some changes and now have somewhat of a good vm backup of Zimbra I have a couple of questions about upgrading it.

1. upgrade path - We are on 4.5.7 currently and wanting to go to the latest version. Can we just upgrade straight to 5.0.8 or do I need to upgrade to something else first and then to 5.0.8. I had an upgrade issue with a system my parents used at one time in their business and it almost wiped out the entire database so I want to make sure

2. upgrade procedure. Since I have the backup is all I have to do on the server just run the new install package on top of the current version to upgrade it?

Thanks.

I believe the best method is to go to 4.5.11 first, and then upgrade to 5.0.8. I am probably wrong though

We had a support issue open with Zimbra on our migration, and were told several times in no uncertain terms to get our 4.5.x version upgraded to 4.5.11 before attempting an upgrade to 5.0.x.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Yea, that helps some. I guess I still just install over top of the current install?

Yep. Once you have taken multiple backups
