Default Centos 4.2

Hi

We are attempting a fresh of Zimbra 3.01 install using the Centos 4.2 distribution.

The server we are installing is a Dell Dual Xeon system. We have then tried it on a Dell P4.

We follow the instructions as for Red Hat 4.

When the system boots it says something about intel Microcode update failed.

It seems that the standard Centos portitioning does things the way Zimbra wants it so we selected that (with LVM) to give 100Mb in boot swap of twice the ram the rest is / (it seeems that swap and / are in an LVM partition)

The issue we get on both Pcs is as follows.

System freezes after install of spelling tar.gz

We did at one stage edit the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file which helped but then we got a load of memory errors.

We have stopped the services we are expected to stop (sendmail).

This is repeatable.

John

I have Zimbra installed on a CentOS 4.2 system which is a Dell 1600SC Dual P4 Xeon and I didn't have any problems with it. CentOS was installed with the suggested defaults (as I'm new to Linux) for the partitioning.

Are there any messages in the zimbra logs? Have you also stopped the postfix (I think that's installed with CentOS) instance? Have you also disabled SELinux and the CentOS firewall? I also assume that your hosts file was set correctly as per the Zimbra Quick Install docs?

64 bit OS? If so, it's not going to work.

Default Moved to AMD

Hi

I have moved our efforts to an AMD machine and selected 32bit install. The delay issue after the spell is probably looking for mx record for domain. Anyway this one goes further and I have the error messages we git yesterday on the
Dells

adding mydomain.net to ZimbraMailHostPool
service.FAILURE (System failure : getDirect Context)
cause:javax.naming.communication
Execption mydomain.net:389

Then it finishes install

ZMcontrol status gives

cannot determine services exiting

ZMcoontrol start

ldap starts then nothing else.

I will check the ip address in the etc hosts next as I think it is set to the domains external ip address and I think it should be the private ip.

Also have edited etc/config/i18n and removed stuff as suggested elsewhere

Any ideas

John

DNS problem, can't resolve your hostname to this box, covered extensively in the forums. Fix it and reinstall.

Default DNS issue probably the thing

Thanks for your help

Now system works edited etc/hosts it had the external IP address in place and changed it to internal. also made sure all other things were right (sendmail stopped) I dont know if the /etc/sysconfig/i18n changes are neccesary.

This is on AMD machine Will look at the dell memory errors tomorow may be urelated.
